It’s a new year! It’s already 2007! Oh my, all the times gone so fast.
However, happy new year everyone! It’s a new year and some new thoughts that
will relate to wrestling. Wrestling is something that I love so dearly, and I
say that because I grew up watching it my whole life basically. I also say that
wrestling is in my blood just because I watch it, but know nothing on how to
wrestle. I would love to learn how to wrestle and be an apart of something that
I love doing. I am looking into internships for wrestling (so if anyone has any
information, please email it to me at naru212@gmail.com) but New York doesn’t
offer much, so I’ll have to wait for some God blessing opportunity for that.
However, let me get on with my thoughts.
Wrestling to me is addicting and yes my passion. You can give me any wrestling—I
don’t care—and I’ll watch it. I’ve been watching WWE (World Wrestling
Entertainment) ever since it started and yes I’ve been a regular viewer.
However, lately the WWE has been fading away to what it used to be. Let me start
with WWE’s brand Monday night RAW and their recent Pay-Per-View, New Years
Revolution. This is going to be biased on my opinion, so if you can’t take the
truth as how I see it, don’t read.
New Years Revolution (1/7/07) in my opinion only two good matches I like, and
the rest were not alright. The Tag Team Turmoil match, that is neutral, so it’s
in between like and alright for me. The good matches I’ll see again are the
first match of the night which was for the Intercontinental Championship which
was Jeff Hardy and Johnny Nitro; the other match will be the World Tag Team
Championship between DX and Team RKO.
The first match of the night was within a steal cage…you don’t see these
matches often anymore. However, I’ve always been a fan of Jeff and glad to see
that he is the champion. However his performance was nothing short, he’s a
great wrestler as well as a great tag team partner whenever he’s with his
brother Matt. However, as I give Jeff credit, I also have to give credit to
Johnny Nitro, even though I don’t like him. Johnny Nitro deserves credit and
respect…he’s earn the right to be apart of the best. He knows how to wrestle
and at times it impressed it. From Nitro, he proved himself to hold his own
without his partner Joey Mercury and he proved that during his ladder match he
had against Jeff Hardy for the belt some time ago. The match was great to watch
and both men once again deserve respect and credit for putting their bodies on
the line.
The next match was the Tag Team Turmoil which let’s the winning tag team get a
future shot at the World Tag Team titles; this was the neutral match for me. Let’s
first acknowledge the teams that participated: Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas,
the World’s Greatest Tag Team; the Highlanders; Super Crazy and Jim Duggan;
Lance Cade and Murdoch; and Cyme Tyme. These five teams deserve respect too. I
mean, Vince does have wrestling talent here, but I think at times he’s holding
them back, like he’s not letting their personality come out. The World’s
Greatest Tag Team, one team that has a true title. Both guys have great
chemistry and their ability is just amazing. It’s a good thing they’re back
because I believe that they could dominate the Tag Team wrestling division in
general. The Highlanders are one of my favorite tag teams and they are great in
the ring. One thing that stands out is that they are Scottish; they could also
dominate the Tag Team wrestling division in general. Super Crazy and Jim Duggan…one
wired team…maybe Vince has something unique in mind about this one. Lance Cade
and Murdoch…the first thing I thought was that Vince was trying to copy the
now disbanded team of AMW (America’s Most Wanted) from TNA but it seems that I
was proven wrong as these guys made a name for themselves. They may have made a
name for themselves, but I’m still not impressed and just don’t like them.
Cyme Tyme…not funny at all, its just stupidity; their in ring ability is
great; they know how to work as a team and have that factor. I think if they
drop this whole act they’re doing and just wrestle with no underhand tactics,
they would show much more and I think they’ll have a greater fan base. But
this match is neutral because despite the great talent it had…it just didn’t
interest me the way it went.
This match was to eliminate one tag team and have another come down to be their
next opponent. This is a great way to show everyone the endurance you can
tolerate, but it would have been better if all the teams started in the ring and
had it like that. I think that would have showed true talent, because think of
it, if one member of the same tag team is tagged in by someone else, just think
what would happen. For example, if Shelton was wrestling Murdoch and Murdoch
gets this idea to tag Shelton’s partner in who will be Charlie Haas that would
be great to see if they wanted to fight each other. Of course Haas could back
out of it, but it will keep the fans entertained if they wrestle each other and
tag someone else in. It wouldn’t call for a break-up with this tag team, its
just showing the creative side of me and that is what the WWE needs…some more
creative ideas where it won’t be repeating its self week after week.
The match that I’ll watch again is the World Tag Team Championship between DX
and Team RKO. This match was an ass kicking. DX set out to accomplish what they
said and Team RKO set out to accomplish what they said too. However, both teams
accomplished more than that at New Years Revolution. They both backed up their
words during their promos. For DX, they both literally brought Edge and Orton to
the other side. They also did tear their flesh apart and made them lose blood,
and they broke bones or maybe just a bruised body. For Team RKO, they did put an
end to DX, however it is not official. Team RKO only temporarily but an end to
DX as Triple H suffered another injury to his knee. This is the second time he
had surgery on the same knee. But this match was just a war, it wasn’t a
wrestling match. Randy Orton gave a quote, “Lose the battle; win the war”.
That quote will work for this match because the way I see it is that despite the
blood loss and the ass kicking, Team RKO survived and they won the war. They won
the war because they decimated DX and put Triple H on the sideline for at least
four to six months. So even if the match was ruled a no contest, Team RKO has
their work cut out for them. All that’s left is Shawn Michaels. Maybe Team RKO
can decimate DX and kill their legacy. Don’t get me wrong, I love DX and I
grew up watching them, but now their chances are slim. Who knows what they are
going to do now? We can only speculate while they have the answer to this
question Michaels gave on RAW: “Is this the end of DX?”
Another match on that night that sucked so badly was the main event. That was
not a main event match…that match deserved to be somewhere else on the card,
not as a main event. The Umaga/Cena match…just put me to sleep. I don’t like
both of them, even through I just recently found out who Umaga is. Just to let
you know, Umaga used to be under the name of Ekmo (go Wikipedia it!). I never
liked John Cena since he ever debuted and I still believe that he’ll be the
next Hulk Hogan. I don’t like him being champ either, can’t rap, poor promo
skills, and no he does not have a great body. However, the match was not
entertaining and the feud I could care less about. Vince is running out of ideas
and he doesn’t know what to do anymore. But I’m still alright with the fact
that Cena is still champion…I just don’t want to see Umaga be champion, I
rather see someone else be champion and carry WWE on their back. I’m not
trying to bad mouth anyone here, this is just how I feel and my straight
forwardness about things.
The Monday night RAW shows…ever since 2007 came rolling along, to me RAW has
gone down. Let’s take January 1, 2007 the RAW show that had Kevin Federline
facing John Cena in a no disqualification match. There is no need for details
but to let Kevin Federline win the match? What are people thinking these days?
It doesn’t matter if John Cena got revenge later on in the night, that loss he
suffered is going to haunt him for the rest of his days. The latest RAW show was
January 8, 2007 and that was just a landslide of boring, disgusting, and surly
not entertaining. I’ll tell you the truth, Vince has a way of dragging people
in and he definitely grabbed my attention as well as maybe everyone else’s.
The thing that drew us all in was the Rosie and Donald fight. I truly thought it
was going to be both of them, live on television and settle it in a debate not a
match. But when I found out that it was going to be played out by some actors…I
wanted to throw up. That wasn’t entertainment that was pure disgusting! Can
Vince make the ‘fake’ Rosie be anymore greedy? Her character was just…nasty…that’s
how I feel about it. And judging by the crowd, they are right and I’m on their
side for this one. It was boring and TNA is way better than WWE.
Vince needs to reinvent himself if he wants to stay on top despite if people buy
the tickets or see it on television. People don’t like seeing the same things
over and over again and I think he’s forgetting about that. In due time, TNA
will dominate WWE despite TNA only being out there for four and half years of
total nonstop action. TNA is wrestling and hasn’t lost the true aspect of it,
where as Vince just doesn’t know what to do anymore with his great variety and
roster of talent.
