Today's political cartoon on the editorial page (Walt Handelsman, Editorial
Cartoon, Sept. 28) makes me wonder if the cartoonist, who is lampooning
President Obama for giving thoughtful consideration to the situation in
Afghanistan, would be enthusiastic about having his children fighting and dying
in that awful place. People like your cartoonist must have been living in a
different world than the rest of us the last eight years.
The world would be a better place today if all our recent presidents had made
thoughtful and wise decisions before committing our military to fight and die in
ill-defined foreign wars--wars which did as much damage to our national interest
as they did to advance that interest.
