Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has dragged his ex-girlfriend Ms Dela Ackumey to an Accra High Court in connection with allegations that he had performed her traditional marriage rites while they were together.

Essien, who will be flying in from his London base to testify, wants a court order restraining Ms Ackumey who was said to have lived with him sometime ago before they broke up, from holding herself as his wife.

The defendant, Ms Ackumey, meanwhile has stated that she has video evidence to prove that the Chelsea ace indeed performed the marriage rites in the presence of her relatives.

At the court, presided over by Justice A.K Ofori-Atta, counsel for Essien, stated that according to his client, the rites performed did not amount to marriage in the Anlo tribe where Ackumey comes from.

He argued that even if the traditional rites amounted to a marriage, it was contrary to the instructions he gave and stressed that it was not a marriage rite.

Counsel for the defendant told the court that the plaintiff had made attempts to have the matter settled amicably but was unsuccessful on the issue of whether a marriage rite was performed or not.

Neither Essien nor Dela were in the court on Tuesday, as they were both out of the country; but Dela had indicated she had wanted to give evidence via video conferencing, which counsel for Essien disagreed with.

It would be recalled that Dela Ackumey about two years ago told the News of the World, a British tabloid, that Michael Essien cheated on her several times but she forgave him.

They however later split according to her story because she could no longer stand his roving eyes and lies and therefore called it quits.

The player is said to be dating Nadia Buari, a Ghanaian actress and a daughter of Sidiku Buari, ace musician and former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana.

He is rumoured to have proposed marriage to Nadia and wants the issue of his alleged marriage to Dela put behind him so that he can move on in life.

Essien, meanwhile, has one child with another woman.

According to  Ghana gossips and the The People (http://www.people.co.uk/) the shocked lover of Ghanaian international star Michael Essien has ditched him - after discovering he was cheating on her.

Gorgeous Lurata Murati ( picture on your right), 26, is livid with the randy £24million soccer ace who she'd been dating since the summer.

She hit the roof after learning the £80,000-a-week midfielder had been romping with Cassie Sumner, 24, behind her back.

Lurata stormed: "He's a lying, cheating b******.

"He thinks because he is this big football hero he can treat women with contempt.

"When I asked him about this girl he just kept saying 'It's rubbish, it's rubbish' while laughing down the phone as though it was no big deal.

"I can't believe I've been sleeping with this man who was happy to see such a trollop.

"Now I just want to put Michael Essien out of my life."

Two weeks ago, glamour model Cassie was at the centre of claims that she is a high-class escort girl - stories that sickened Lurata and rocked unsuspecting Essien, 23. Cassie vehemently denies the allegations.
Ghanaian international Essien, who signed for Chelsea from French club Lyon 15 months ago, first met Lurata in late July.
Blonde Lurata, a 6ft personal trainer, told how during their romance muscular Essien:
WOOED her with bottles of £150 champagne in top nightclubs.
WENT wild for her 34E breasts during passionate sex romps at her flat.
TEXTED her regularly, begging to meet up but never once invited her back to his Surrey mansion.
LOVED to hear her talk dirty while he relaxed on his sofa between matches.
Lurata, who lives just a 10-minute walk from Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground in south-west London, vividly recalls the night they first had full sex.
She said: "To really turn him on I dressed in a tight blue corset with a short skirt slashed at the side and high heels.
"We'd been to a nightclub but by the time we were back at my flat he was panting like a dog on heat.
"We tore our clothes off but Michael begged me to keep my corset on while I straddled him as he sat on the sofa.
"He loved me being on top but we tried out every position you can think of. His stamina was amazing as you can imagine being a footballer. Michael was very tender and caring.
"After making love he talked about his family back in Ghana and how playing for a big club like Chelsea was a dream come true for him.

"He even asked if I had a boyfriend which I didn't. Michael mentioned a girlfriend back in Ghana but said they had split when he moved to London. I felt we were so close."
Smitten Lurata first met Essien through mutual friends during a visit to a posh Knights-bridge restaurant. "I didn't know anything about him but he asked to be introduced to me," she recalled.

"He was very shy to begin with but in his jeans and white top he looked gorgeous. I felt the sexual chemistry between us immediately.

"He drove me to Chinawhite nightclub in his 4x4 Porsche where we sat in the club's VIP area chatting.

"I didn't want to be seen as some kind of soccer groupie so got my girlfriend to drive me home even though Michael offered. From then on he phoned and texted me constantly."

After one meeting Essien texted Lurata in the early hours of Wednesday August 30 expressing his pleasure at meeting her.

It read: "Not at all babe, I really enjoy your company and Im soo glad to meet some one like you x."

Lurata added: "For our first proper date we went to a restaurant called Zuma but Michael was pestered constantly for autographs so we went to Kabarat nightclub where we kissed for the first time.

"Michael had been buying champagne for me all night and filling up my glass constantly even though he wasn't drinking himself.

"We went back to my flat and it wasn't long before we were getting to know each other better.

"I wouldn't go all the way so instead stripped down to my tiny pink thong and let Michael play with my breasts which he adored. He had a pair of tight white boxers on and was very aroused.

"Basically we rolled around the sofa touching and kissing each other all over before performing oral sex.

"He was very well endowed but I insisted we didn't have full sex. It was a few days later that I wore my tight corset and we made love for the first time."
After that they had numerous sexy chats.

On one occasion Essien talked about a Chelsea performance but got excited when the subject turned to romping.
Lurata told the player they needed to make love again, he replied with a laugh: "Woooo yeah," before adding saucily: "I like it, I like it."

In the same call he asked Lurata if she was naked and told her he was getting excited. He asked: "Are you playing with yourself?"

In a call on October 19, after Chelsea's 1-0 home win over Barcelona, Essien admitted to Lurata: "I'm dead, f***ing dead. I think I need a good massage from you. It's been a long time."

And as he prepared for the home game against Portsmouth which Chelsea won 2-1, the couple joked about what they would be doing to each other if they were together. Essien told her: "You made me change. I used to be really shy."

Lurata asked her lover to come straight from the game in his sweaty kit to her place - so she could join him in the shower - and Essien laughed: "You're welcome." But relations between the pair cooled last week when Lurata confronted him over Cassie, who once spent an evening getting plastered on cocktails with Prince Harry.

Essien began dating the lads' mag model last January and lavished gifts on her including a flashy BMW.

She also virtually moved into his Surrey home - the mansion which Lurata says she was never invited to. But then came the escort girl claims, which Essien tried to laugh off as "rubbish". Uncertain what to believe at first, Lurata then asked the arrogant star if he still wanted to see her. Essien replied cockily: "Why not. I'm telling you it's not true."

But since that phone call the pair haven't spoken once.

Lurata said: "To be honest I'm glad I found out about this other woman otherwise he would have been stringing me along for ages. At the end of the day I'm better off without him. He's just another big-time footballer who thinks he can have whoever he wants without ever worrying about the consequences.

"The big shame is that behind his brash football image he is a really nice guy.

"But what's done is done. I've got to move on with my life now."

When we tried to question Essien about Lurata and Cassie, he stumbled: "What are you talking about. No. Sorry," before putting the phone down.
