It is a seven minutes long intro to the ongoing MTV Asia project Codehunters. The prologue introduces several characters of the Codehunters universe to the audience. The animation looks beautiful and I would suggest that you download the high resolution version if which could take some time to download.
The high resolution video uses 550 megabytes of disk space and the low resolution one about 150 megabytes. Ben Hibon, the director and creator of the prologue explains his intentions with it the following way:
“I wanted to have a few main characters, to be able to write a variety of threads within the main story. I was also interested in illustrating different aspects of the ‘Codehunters’ world through various personalities, which I could only do with multiple characters. So although they seem to be like a “gang”, they have very different provenances and experiences… separate lives. The main idea behind the creation of the characters was to illustrate different eras within the same society; the past, the present and the future.“
Codehunters
by Ben Hibon of stateless films is
an astonishing capsule animé film by the UK director, aided by Glasgow-based Axis
Animation. Reminds me of the work of Koji Morimoto, and fuses the best of
East and West animated styles. Fluid, desaturated visuals complement a brief
glimpse of an intense dystopic vision. If only the original brief to develop it
as a series hadn't changed into it being a wordless promo short for MTV Asia.
Still this signals Hibon as a director to monitor.
