Charlie Chaplin's 1st Film Released Feb. 02 1914Making a Living is the first film appearance of Charlie Chaplin, which premiered on February 2, 1914. Chaplin plays a lady-charming swindler, Edgar English, who runs afoul of the Keystone Kops. Having been successful in the music halls with Fred Karno's touring group (including Stan Laurel), Charlie Chaplin made the transition onto screen on the 9th February 1914 in the Keystone cops 'Making A Living'. He was spotted on the stage in New York in August 1913 whilst in a production as 'The Inebriate' in 'A Night in an English Music Hall', and was telegrammed that he had been offered a contract in films. |
